Temperatures are plunging below zero in parts of the United States, and many of those who have arrived under the US-Australia deal from Manus and Nauru are not prepared for a cold North American winter.
These cold winters can come as a shock to us Aussies, let alone to refugees who have spent years in the stifling hot, humid conditions of offshore detention.
Last year, we managed to raise over $10,000 to buy solid, warm clothing for over 200 refugees, including young children, who came to the United States with barely more than the clothes on their backs.
Now, with more than 100 new arrivals, we're asking for your support once more. Please donate to help us provide warm winter essentials to Manus and Nauru refugees now in the USA.
With so many still living paycheck to paycheck on minimum wage jobs without adequate heating, warm bedding or good clothing, our generous donors made a huge difference last year.
We are asking for your help again this year, to help support the 100+ new refugee arrivals who are bracing for their first North American winter. From New York to North Dakota, we want to send a warm, Aussie welcome this winter season.
Help provide warm clothing for refugee children ($39), adults ($59), and even whole families ($199).
This goes a long way to letting a young family starting a new life in the USA -- or a young man or woman unable to be with their family -- that we care.
Each package will be sent with a supporting note: "Happy Thanksgiving! Here's a warm welcome to the United States from Ads-Up supporters."
