Adrian's Road to Recovery: Hodgkin's Lymphoma

Donation protected
Hello to our family, friends, and loved ones,
My brother Adrian is an 12-year-old soccer superfan, a history genius, and the most resilient and compassionate middle-schooler that I have ever encountered. He loves learning about soccer, watching all sports from the Celtics to the Premier League, and playing with our dog, Leo the Dog. We are asking you to financially support us, Angela Ellingwood (Mom) and Matt Brady (Dad), with his treatment for and recovery from cancer.

Adrian has been battling with treatment for Stage II Hodgkin's Lymphoma, a diagnosis that he received on September 14, 2022. Lymphoma is a cancer which impacts the lymphatic system. It is not particularly common, but the medical team at EMMC is optimistic that he will make a full recovery. On September 22, he began his first of five cycles of Chemotherapy at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. He initially spent 10 days admitted to the hospital. A majority of his treatments now, however, are administered out-patient at the Cancer Center of Maine and we are so fortunate that he is able to spend much of his time in the comfort of our home, but he has daily needs and various appointments, procedures, and tests that require Mom to be by his side 24/7. He now only has one remaining cycle left in his Chemotherapy treatment, which will last an additional four weeks, but his doctors plan to follow treatment in January with three weeks of intense Radiation Therapy.

We are asking for assistance in helping pay for the various costs associated with his fight for recovery. Medical insurance only covers a majority of his medical treatments and medications, and the leftover portion is still significant, although we are unsure what the total will equate to. In addition, Angela has taken some time off from her job to care for Adrian, and day-to-day living expenses continue. Financial worries should be the last thing on Mom's or Dad's mind.

All contributions to this fundraiser will go to the following:
  • Remaining medical bills
  • Travel costs should Adrian require out-of-state treatment
  • Living costs as a result of Mom's decrease in income
  • Long-term considerations given future need for treatment

Adrian's positivity is the most striking and inspiring aspect of his journey. He amazes me daily with his optimistic outlook. Despite constant battles with pain, anxiety, nausea, and discomfort, he always has a smile on his face and is ready to take on the world. Adrian is grateful for every day he gets to spend with his family, watch the World Cup, or attend school for a few hours.

We are so fortunate to be surrounded by an incredibly supportive and positive community of friends and family. The Hampden community, RSU22 School District, and the EMMC team have been incredible in providing Adrian with the best accommodations possible.

You can follow Adrian's journey on a more personal level by following either Angela or Matt on Facebook. They post regular updates on Adrian's progress, highlighting his incredible positivity and resilience in the face of darkness (and his love for soccer which is getting him through this). More updates will be posted here, as well.

We thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Any support is greatly appreciated, whether that be donating, sharing, or sending us great energy.
