Hi, My name Is Adrian, I am 6 years old. On January 30th, I started to feel ill. We were on a family trip, and I was not enjoying it. That day, I woke up with a bloody nose, fever and headache. As the day went on, nothing helped getting rid of my fever. As the days went on, my mommy thought it was just a virus, thought it would go away. After not getting better in the following days, my mom took me to the nearest emergency room. February 3rd, 2022, on that day, our life’s changed. I was told I was COVID positive, and all my blood cells were extremely low, they had said it could possibly be blood/bone cancer. We were transferred to Loma Linda Children Hospital, 2 hours away from our home. Getting there they started all types of test to determine what was wrong with me. All test for Leukemia came back negative. Soon after they did a bone marrow biopsy, that’s when we found out I only have 5% bone marrow left. Giving us our diagnostic of having a severe Aplastic Anemia.
Aplastic Anemia is a very rare blood disorder, only about 20,000 cases a year are diagnosed. Aplastic anemia is a form of bone marrow failure. The bone marrow, spongy tissue inside the bones, is the factory for all blood cell lines -- red cells, white cells, and platelets. These cells are critical to supplying oxygen and nourishment to other tissues and organs, fighting infection, and clotting the blood. Typically, as old blood cells die off naturally, they are replaced by new blood cells formed in the bone marrow. In aplastic anemia, the bone marrow does not produce new cells, leaving the body susceptible to bleeding and infection.
Being diagnosed has made me immunocompromised, I have had to get multiple blood/plalets transfusions in this past month. I have been in and out of the hospital several times in just these past few weeks. In the midst of awaiting genetic testing results to ultimately determine my course of treatment - to either begin with immunosuppression, or to jump right into chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant, it will require a 3 to 4 week hospital stay and then 3 months or so within a 30 minute range from the hospital. Meaning I cannot risk being away Incase something were to happen, I can get immediate help. Driving 2 hrs back and forth can put my life in danger.
This has been very hard on my family as I also have 3 siblings, My sister 5, And two brothers, 3 & 1. We are a one income family, having to drive 2 hours away from home each time, its hard, having to leave them behind to get the care I need.
If it’s in your hearts to donate , it would very much be appreciated , as this will not give us a burden on falling behind, and we can use this to cover all medical and travel expenses that are yet to come.Prayers and shares are appreciated. May God bless each and every single one of you. Thanks for the help in advance!
