Hi, my name is Desira and I have spent most of my life as a big sister to Adrianna Buehl. Adrianna is many things a daughter, a sister, a friend, a coworker, but her favorite title is MAMA to her 10 month old son, Amari.
On February 5th 2024 around 1:30 p.m. I received a facetime from my mom, who was in a panic. I could tell something was wrong and all she could say was Adrianna. She had a hard time explaining what was going on. She eventually informed me that she was heading to the hospital as she found my sister in her car unconscious.
My sister enjoys watching Tik Tok's and listening to music but didn't want to wake anyone in the house. So, she decided to go sit in her car in the garage so she wouldn't wake anyone and due to cold weather in Iowa she decided to start the car to stay warm. She left the back door slightly cracked as she thought that was enough.
The next morning my mom woke up as usual and started making brunch and then heard my nephew crying. After a minute he didn't stop so she thought she would go check on them as Adrianna usually attends to him quickly and he doesn't cry after that. She picked him up from his bed and then noticed Adrianna was not in her bedroom. She was confused and started looking everywhere for her. She was not in the house. My mom then checked Life 360 and saw she was still at home but couldn't find her. She decided to go out to check the garage as it was the only place not checked. The garage door was closed so she decided to go around to the back door and noticed it was slightly cracked open. She then checked my sister's car and saw her passed out. She opened the door and tried to wake her up and she wouldn't move. The inside of her car was hot, Adrianna's body was pink along with a dry shine of sweat and dry white liquid in her mouth. My mom then removed Adrianna from the car and laid her on the floor and called for help.
The ambulance took her to the hospital and upon my mom arriving they took her to a consulting room and let her know a doctor would be with her. My mom waited and waited asked any and every one if Adrianna was alive or if anyone had information. The doctor finally came in and sat her down and let her know the amount of Carbon Monoxide in her body was deadly and she needed to be intubated as she was not able to breath on her own and that she would have a better fighting chance at the University of Iowa Hospital and was shortly airlifted to the hospital.
She was placed in the Surgical and Neurosciences Intensive Care Unit (SNICU). They started treating her by doing Hyperbaric Oxygen Chamber Therapy which was in attempts to replace the Carbon Monoxide in her body with oxygen. This chamber stimulates diving affects and gives her 100% oxygen at 2.5% higher pressure than normal air.
They were not sure IF or when she would wake up and IF she did wake up the amount of brain damage was unknown.
If you know Adrianna she is the light in every room she walks into. She loves everyone and will do anything possible for the people in need. During this time the future is unknown. We are asking to help ease her mind and the stress that finances play in the time of recovery. The money raised will of course help with her medical expenses, monthly bills, personal expenses, needs, and of course to help her with the time off of work that she will be missing.
