My Last Hope
Anyone who knows me knows I’ve always tried to deal with my problems on my own, but this time, everything has gone wrong.
That’s why I’ve decided to listen to my friends and ask for help.
Over the past few years, in addition to dealing with food intolerances and Irritable Bowel Syndrome, I’ve developed chronic fatigue, sleep disorders, depression, frequent bruising, high carcinogenic inflammation in my blood, low immunity, unexplained weight gain, and many other issues...
Even with diet, exercise, and over 9 weeks of Ozempic, I couldn’t lose even 1kg and still experience constant intestinal crises for no apparent reason.
Shortly before coming to Brazil, after I mentioned my weight struggles to the endocrinologist in Ireland, she finally told me that all these symptoms were caused by an overactive tumor in my adrenal gland, something I didn’t even know about.
For over two years, I had been told that my "fat lump" was just as expected, without knowing it was a tumor producing hormones uncontrollably, making my health worse.
Despite severe symptoms and abnormal test results (pre-diabetes, high cholesterol, etc.), the doctors refused to operate, saying my hormonal levels needed to exceed 51 points for surgery to be considered. My last exams showed 48, 50, and 50. In other words, my quality of life is defined by a number!
So, as I was coming to Brazil in 10 days time for holiday, I planned to take a loan from AIB (Irish Bank), where I’ve been receiving my salary for four years.
Why am I asking for help? Unfortunately, the loan was denied.
I’ve never taken a loan there, nor do I have a credit card.
I tried to appeal, explaining that it was a health emergency, but they refused, saying that because I transfer my salary to a digital account (which I feel is safer), they couldn’t grant me credit.
I also tried to activate my Irish health plan, but it doesn’t cover non-emergency surgeries.
I even tried to borrow money here in Brazil, offering my apartment as collateral. However, the process takes 20 business days just to update the deed, and that doesn’t include the cost of hiring an engineer (around R$2,000), and there’s still no guarantee, as I have no verified income in Brazil.
And why don’t I try SUS (Brazil’s public health system)?
Because I was confident I would get the loan! BIG mistake!!! Plus, as an immigrant, I can’t stay out of Ireland for more than three months. I can’t wait for SUS timelines while trying to go back and forth. I was sure the loan would go through.
What do Brazilian doctors say?
Both the urologist and endocrinologist here agree that the surgery is urgent because:
✅ The tumor is already twice the size that’s recommended for removal.
✅ It is a functional tumor, meaning it must be removed regardless of its size.
Now, my surgery is scheduled for 02/18.
How can you help me? I’ve found an angel who will help me by lending their credit card to pay hospital expenses in installments (After negotiating, I secured the hospital for R$47,000).
However, the medical team charges R$20,000, also payable in two installments. There are still extra expenses not included in the budget.
I’ve tried everything to handle this alone, but I can’t wait any longer. I truly want to get this tumor removed before returning to Ireland.
If you can help financially, I would be eternally grateful.
If not, your prayers, positive thoughts, and energy will make a world of difference!
If you can share this message, it would help me even more!
I’m incredibly thankful from the bottom of my heart, and I hope your generosity returns to you multiplied in blessings!
