Adria & Phil Switzer

As some of you may have heard, on May 13th Adria experienced her first symptoms of what was later diagnosed as Guillain-Barré Syndrome - also known as GBS. This is a rare condition where your body’s immune system attacks the peripheral nerves (the nerves connecting the brain and spinal cord to the rest of the body) causing paralysis throughout the body. 85% of patients are expected to make a full recovery within 2-12 months.

 

Adria’s paralysis affects her legs, lower torso and half of her face. She has been in a wheelchair for many weeks now. Adria spent 22 days in the University of Alberta hospital and has now been transferred to the Glenrose rehabilitation facility. The road to recovery is fairly unknown and we would like to alleviate the financial pressure on the Switzer family.

Adria has been unable to continue with her 2 jobs. Without a way to teach music lessons and with sick days/holiday days running out at her other job she will not have an income for some time. Any donations made will go directly to helping them continue to make basic monthly payments and prepare for medical equipment needed in the home as Adria continues to rehabilitate over the next several months. This could include ramps, a chair lift for the stairs or a wheelchair accessible shower etc.
