June 4 my son Skylar, who is such a bright presence in  any room and has the best personality, was on his way home from a friends house, on his motorcycle - Wearing a full face helmet, valid motorcycle license, Mid day, clear day, no obstructions- A truck pulled out from a side road in front of Skylar. Skylar then T boned the truck. He hit face first into the truck breaking every bone, some in a couple places, eye sockets to his jaw. He had multiple brain bleeds. Moderate - severe traumatic brain injury. His femurs broke on the handle bars. Also- grade 3 liver laceration, kidney laceration, collapsed lung. Broken bone in hand, tail bone. Broken bone behind maxillary sinus, sinus surgery .Cracked skull where pituitary gland is.  This injury has caused a host of problems and only recently discovered as of 6-26 at Shepherd Center in Atlanta GA. It does explain so many things going on currently. As of 6/5 he’s started hormone therapy. Liver abscess which he had surgery on. It drained for a couple weeks. May need surgery to remove it.  He also will need trachea reconstruction and surgery to repair his nose in the near future. He will never play football again which breaks his heart.  Aug 12 we will start out patient therapy at Shepherd Pathways. It’s about 30 min drive there from where we are staying. My insurance is out of network so it’ll be $578 a week. Up to 8 weeks.   I’m a single mom of 3 awesome kids and Skylar needs 24/7 care. He has had the most positive attitude and pushed himself despite feeling horrible  throughout the healing process. He’s come a long ways but we still have a winding long road ahead of us. Out of town family and friends have encouraged me to start a go fund me. A close family friend had the great idea to sell #skylarstrong bracelets.
