Dear PGA WEST Members,
Last spring, soon after the pandemic shut down operations at PGA WEST, a small group of members wanted to do something to assist our employees, especially those that were severely impacted by the closures. What started as participation by a few golf groups morphed into a GoFundMe account supported by over 200 PGA WEST members raising $85,000 from those that knew about it.
With the support of management, a member committee was formed that distributed the funds based on needs through a formal application process. Approximately 100 employees received funds that went for rent, food, and other essential needs. The in-person meetings with employees to distribute the funds were very emotional, and the sincere gratitude from those that received the disbursement was genuine. We made a difference in the lives of many of our dedicated employees! Again, a thank you to those that contributed!!!!
Today, we know the pandemic continues to impact our local economy and our employees at PGA WEST. As management confirmed, the reliance on dual income households, (which have experienced the loss of one or both incomes along the way) combined with school closures, continue to cause hardships for many of these families.
We would like to suggest to you the “Adopt A Family” GoFundMe fundraiser for the Easter holiday, a meaningful time for our employees: 1. To show our APPRECIATION for every hourly employee with the gift of a 12lb ham. And to thank them for their dedication and efforts in helping keep the Club open and safe, as well as for coming to work every day so that many of us can enjoy the Club’s activities as permitted by state regulations even though they may be putting themselves in “harm’s way.” 2. To provide some additional financial ASSISTANCE in the form of an American Express gift card to assist them with their family economic pressures.
Currently there are 338 hourly employees at PGA WEST. A $130 donation would “Adopt” one family. Our goal would be to raise approximately $44,000 which would enable us to give each family a ham and a $100 gift card. If we are as successful as last year, we would put any additional dollars raised to increasing the amount of the gift card.
We are all very fortunate to be members at PGA WEST and enjoy the lifestyle the desert offers us seasonally or full time. Our lives are being affected with this pandemic personally, but not like the lives of those families that are less fortunate.
If you can donate and adopt one family that would be great! However, if you can find it in your heart to adopt multiple families, that would be awesome!!!!
We ask you to please donate by March 22nd so that the hams and gift cards can be distributed to employees one week prior to Easter. THANK YOU!!
