Adopt a COVID-19 Hospital Bed in Sierra Leone

Donation protected

Before the COVID-19 crisis Sierra Leone's hospitals were ill-equipped, and understaffed.

They still are. https://youtu.be/4yxnhaMyuMA

What we do have, however, are brilliant and passionate doctors, nurses, hospital cleaners, screeners, and porters across facilities doing the best they can to contain the COVID-19 crisis.

Doctors like Dr. Awunoga and Dr. Baldeh at Connaught Hospital, Dr. Kabineh at Jui Covid Treatment Centre, Dr. Cole and Dr. Sevalie at 34 Military Hospital Covid Treatment Centre, Dr. Yilla at Lungi Hospital Treatment Centre and many others.

These doctors and the teams they lead are the front-line in Sierra Leone's response to COVID-19. For them to test, contain, respond, and treat patients they need basic medical tools.

In April we were able to supply Connaught Hospital with 12 sets of tools for their COVID-19 Isolation Unit thanks to a generous donation from the Friends of Education Sierra Leone Organisation.

There are other facilities that need the same tools but don't have. If we do not respond to these needs immediately we limit the frontline's ability to respond. And this can lead to higher morbidity and mortality.

We want Sierra Leoneans to be able to access care without fear or loss of dignity. The only way to guarantee dignity and quality of care is to ensure that frontline staff and the medical facilities where they work are equipped with the resources they need.

Hospital beds need supplies. They need beddings so that when a patient leaves there is no downtime in changing them. They need oximeters to test the level of oxygen of patients, and glucometer machines and strips to test sugar levels. They need BP machines to check blood pressure too. In addition, they need cleaning supplies and additional cleaning staff to disinfect and maintain shared bathrooms for patients.

We have allowed our health facilities to be filthy scary places we only go to as a last resort.

During this crisis, we want to use this opportunity to equip facilities and change the status quo.

All Sierra Leoneans deserve to be treated in facilities that are clean, and well equipped. All of our front liners need to be able to work with the peace of mind that comes with knowing you have all the tools and medication available to allow you to do everything in your power to save lives.

Join the C19 Dignity Project by making a donation to adopt a bed. For $225 you can equip a bed in an isolation unit, or a treatment facility with everything it needs to provide quality of care. Everything you donate will go towards equipment, medication, hygiene, and cleaning staff at a public hospital.

Support Sierra Leone's COVID-19 frontline today!
