My name is Neko and I am raising money for my very dear friend Adonis, a Black Trans Woman residing in Washington State. We have been friends for 15 years and she is someone I consider family. It has been raw yet inspiring to witness Doni’s growth and journey towards transition over the last decade and a half. Whether it was navigating her gender identity as a teenager, coming out to her friends and family, or being forced out of workplaces due to the hostile transphobia; Adonis has always found a way to persevere despite unyielding adversity. She remains an incredibly bright & gentle spirit who lights up any space with her joy, humour & laughter. If you have ever met Adonis, you understand how special she is. Adonis deserves more than continuous struggle.
The money we are raising will be in aid of Adonis’ medical transition, including gender affirming surgeries & hormone replacement therapy. This is an opportunity to directly support a Black Trans Woman in your community and to help her fulfill her dream. A chance to give flowers to a Black Trans sister while she is alive and to protect, uplift and support her in living an authentic life.
As you may already know, Black Trans Women face anti-transgender bias coupled with structural anti-black racism. This makes for some of the highest levels of discrimation, abuse and violence. Black Trans Women should not only receive support and care when in a crisis. Black Trans Women deserve resources to thrive before encountering even more trauma. This is a preventative measure we can take as a community to ensure she won’t have to experience houselessness or resort to sex work as a means of survival.
