I was so anxious to retire so I could live my life without a early daily work schedule. I also knew that I wanted to serve my community upon retirement. I started as a volunteer for a hospital in our area shortly after I began to volunteer I became very ill and was diagnosed with Pulmonary Fibrosis. It was likely caused from the treatment I received after my breast cancer surgery that I fought and am a survivor. However Pulmonary Fibrosis is a fatal disease with life apan approximatly 4 years. My lungs will continue to fail me. I had to go onto oxygen 6 months after my diagnosis.
As my lungs continue to fail me and I require more supplemental oxygen. I had to cut back hours volunteering at the hospital. About 8 months ago I had have my oxygen upgraded from a 5 liter concentrator to a 10 L unit, with hopes to keep my oxygen levels within normal range. Now my 10 L unit is no longer enough to keep me alive. My Pulmonary Dr is recommending that I get another 10 L unit but sadly my family nor myself can afford the expense to purchase one out of pocket. Medicare will not pay for another one either.
For the last several months I am no longer able to volunteer. I have had to stay in my bedroom 24/7, just walking 11 ft into the kitchen for a morning cup of coffee has become impossible. I wait on my husband to wake up but he has dementia & it is a case of watching each other at times. My oxygen levels lower to dangerous levels and I am so short of breath I feel each breath may be my last.
I pray if I can get an additional 10 L unit so I can piggy back the two units together to give me 20 L of oxygen. I am praying with additional much needed oxygen that I will be able to walk around the house & maybe sit outdoors some. My family and I are hoping this will help me to do more with the short time I have left. With any additionial monies that I receive will be used to pay for my funeral cost. God Bless you.
