My daughter, Brittany, is a mother of two and for years has been crippled by an unexplained illness, barely able to care for her boys, bedridden for days at a time and in constant pain. A host of local doctors and every invasive test brought no answers. Her condition degraded along with our hope.
Finally, this past summer she was brought to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN and diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, POTS, Chronic Fatigue, and a host of “dysfunctional chronic syndromes”. The doctor frankly and kindly told us that although these conditions are widespread and the Mayo Clinic deals with them daily, they do not have a cure. She will live her whole life with these symptoms.
But the Mayo Clinic has a three week training program for people in her condition. There she would gain the tools and techniques to manage this life long condition and “get her life back.” It is a 17 day outpatient program that requires her to live in Rochester and be at the hospital daily from 8am-4pm. This is the only program of its kind in the country. The doctor said, “This situation is spiraling, and we need a parachute.”
But the cost of sending her to Minnesota for three weeks is simply beyond what this family can afford.
For years friends and family have said, “What can we do to help?” And my heart has broken to answer them truthfully, “Thank you, but honestly there’s nothing any of us can do.”
Only now there is. The program starts on September 16th and we are trying to get the funds together by September 9th. Your donation will pay for childcare, gas to get her to MN, housing, groceries, and travel during her time there, plus a host of miscellaneous expenses required by the program.
Any amount helps! But even if you cannot contribute, please pray for her, pray for healing so she can get back to loving Gideon and Shiloh and living a full life.
