Hello all, friends have encouraged us to put together a GoFundMe, despite our initial hesitation, for folks to be able to feel like they are helping and supporting in some way when everyone feels helpless. We were reminded that it makes people feel good to be able to do something. Everyone helps in different ways and you all have been amazing, so please do not feel pressure to contribute in this particular way. Our family is covering the costs of the funeral and what is left over will be used to fly Laura, Matthew and Vanessa down to Brazil to be able to spend time with Adilson's family who has not been able to come here this entire year due to COVID. We're already blown away by how many different ways people are reaching out with words, gestures and kindness. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
This guy. Adilson Fonseca, swooped my sister off her feet in 1988 and has been by her side every single day since. The kindest human I have ever met, and I truly mean that, wound up being my brother in law for 30 years. No one has ever heard him speak a bad word about another human being. His depth of kindest is uncommon.
He was the most present, kindest, silliest, most playful and helpful loving father to Matt Fonseca and Vanessa Fonseca . He went toe to toe with pancreatic cancer and battled for a year and a half, fighting hard for his family. Up until the very end he was still taking care of others, "can I get you a coffee or something to eat? How are you feeling?"
To say he will be missed is a massive understatement. He was the best son-in-law to my mother and father for over 3 decades and honestly lived his entire life in service of others. He was surrounded by his wife and children and then the entire Kickham clan who will miss him immensely. We love you, Adilson. His entire Brazilian family, the lovely Fonsecas, in Volta Redonda, will miss him dearly as well. There's so much more to say, but for now, até mais cunhado.
