Hi, my name is Katrina Hatch. I am an Honors student at Nauset Regional High School on Cape Cod in Massachusetts. I got selected to attend the National Youth Leadership Forum of Medicine by WorldStrides Experiential Learning Program. I will have the opportunity this summer to go the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill to take classes in the field of medicine. My goal is to pursue a career in Sports Medicine when I get into college. Attending this forum on medicine could open many doors for me as it will help me get into UNC when I apply. Unfortunately, the cost for this program is great. I will cost me and my family around $5,000 for the tuition, board and to travel to and from North Carolina.
I have been interested in medicine ever since I started playing sports. Going in to get my ankle taped before field hockey practice, I often saw our athletic trainer run around, giving people stretches and fixing them up so, they could be their best in the sports they were passionate about. I am passionate about helping people and helping them to be their best selves. I volunteer every year with Youth Street Reach and Kids helping Kids, a non-profit that allows kids to develop projects which support less fortunate peers in our community. My main interest in Sports medicine to continue to support people to be their best.
There have been many changes for me this year. My older sister, who I am very close to, left in the fall start her first year at Syracuse University leaving me and my mom to take care of each other. My mother had back surgery at the end of August which gave me new responsibilities I never expected to have. My mom then went back to work right after the surgery because she is trying to give my sister at least one year free of student loans. We are both really proud of my sister, but my mom is working several jobs to afford to help my sister and pay all of our regular living expenses. I am working to, but I do not make enough money to afford this trip. I sometime help with some of our smaller house hold expenses, and honestly, I am happy to be able to help out my mom. This is why I am asking for any help you can afford to give. Your donation would help me get one step closer to my goals and really exciting future plans.
You might be asking what exactly am I donating to? At National Youth Leadership Forum for Medicine where I will practice the same training simulations that residents and physicians use to hone their skills. I will also gain hands on experience in a variety of medical procedures using the latest technology, with guidance from experts. This is an exciting opportunity and I am grateful for your support. My first payment of $750 is due February 15th and the last must be made by June 1st.
