Adelynn's Fight Against Diabetes

On behalf of my sister Ashley Wheeler and brother in-law Joshua Wheeler, it is with a heavy heart that I ask for your Prayers to lift my sweet precious Goddaughter Adelynn Rose Wheeler, who was recently diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. At the young age of 5, Adelynn will have a tough journey ahead of her, but she is strong, brave and resilient. For those of you who are unfamiliar with this diagnosis, here is a basic description of this complex illness: “Type 1 Diabetes, once known as juvenile diabetes or insulin-dependent diabetes, is a chronic condition in which the pancreas produces little or no insulin. Insulin is a hormone needed to allow sugar (glucose) to enter cells to produce energy. Different factors, including genetics and some viruses, may contribute to type 1 diabetes. Although type 1 diabetes usually appears during childhood or adolescence, it can also develop in adults. Despite active research, type 1 diabetes has no cure. Treatment focuses on managing blood sugar levels with insulin, diet and lifestyle to prevent complications” (www.mayoclinic.org). Type 1 diabetes is a 24/7 disease that requires constant management. Although Adelynn will have all the loving support of the family, there is an incredible amount of medication, supplies and equipment needed to tackle the everyday challenges that come with living with Type 1 Diabetes.  Insurance only covers a small portion of what is needed, and your donations will help provide Adelynn with life-saving supplies. Learning the news that our Adelynn has Type 1 Diabetes was gut-wrenching and heartbreaking.  Nothing can ever prepare you for a moment like this, but through courage and faith, our family is dedicated to providing Adelynn with all she needs to live a great life.  Your support will help us in this fight and all proceeds will go directly towards diabetic care.
