My name is Jed Herman and my mother Adele was recently diagnosed with Alzheimers disease. In the past nine months I have learned much about this awful disease and am heartbroken that it has found my mom. My wife and I are in this battle with her all alone as she does not have anybody in her life and my brother has decided that he can’t (doesn’t want to) deal with the situation hence, is zero help at all. Unfortunately, Adele does not have any savings or long term care insurance and Medicare does not assist with Alzheimers. The cost of her care is a bit over $50,000 per year and needless to say, her social security does not put a dent in that figure. I figured this is the perfect time of year to reach out to my family, friends, acquaintances, and co-workers. Hopefully they will be all gracious enough to spread the word amongst their networks. We are looking to raise money to assist in paying for moms care. Because she has been found by the police wandering the streets several times the state is requiring her to be in a secured facility for her own safety. That is why the care is so much.  We are also trying to give her the best life as is possible while she is still with us. If you can find a place in your heart to help us it would be greatly appreciated. As they say, “anything helps”. Once she deteriorates to a point where she needs “skilled nursing” she will get some assistance from the state via Medicaid.

 

100% of monies raised will be used to subsidize her care in addition to her social security and what disposable income my wife and I have. ANY funds remaining when the time comes will be donated to the Alzheimers Foundation. We need to find a cure for this awful heartbreaking disease.
