A very close friend of ours, Adel Swedan, suffered a catastrophic heart attack on April 4th, 2018. Oxygen supply to his brain disappeared for more than 8 minutes. This caused severe brain damage and our dear friend is currently battling death with very little hope to win.
Current Situation
Adel is at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Surrey Memorial Hospital in Vancouver, Canada. Doctors told us to prepare for his funeral. It breaks our heart to organize this campaign but we thought it is the last support gesture by everyone who knew this wonderful person. We are organizing this campaign to raise money for a decent way for him to leave this world.
Where the money will go
The funds will be used to pay for Adel's funeral based on the Islamic way. We contacted mosques and Islamic organizations in Vancouver and they estimated $5k to $8k. For now, we are planning to use the Chilliwack cemetery and the arrangements will be made by the BCMA Richmond Branch . If we receive more money than we need, we will donate the money on Adel's behalf to the mosque.

My name is Mubarak Al-Hadrami. I live in Kenmore, WA. I have known Adel for more than 10 years. I knew him when he was in Seattle, USA and were (and stayed) very close friends. As Adel is currently unconscious and incapable of making any decisions, the authorities in Canada have assigned me the responsibility of being his temporary substitute decision maker (TSDM ). That means they gave me the responsibility of making decisions about Adel's health care.
Helping me with this campaign is a great group of members of the Yemeni community in Vancouver. They are headed by Wyle Baoween , the Executive Director of the Yemeni Canadian Society. This amazing volunteers are coordinating the many activities ranging from gathering Adel's stuff to getting his belongings out of his apartment to coordinating with his family in Yemen.

This beautiful soul
My last call with Adel was a few days before the heart attack and he was telling me about how excited he is with his new life in Vancouver and his plans to open a new restaurant. He just bought a new car and was sharing the photos with me.
Many of us knew Adel and loved him because of his pure soul, comforting smile and his amazing cooking skills. We all remember nights and nights of sitting together and he is serving us the delicious Yemeni food he made.
It was a shock to all of us to see this beautiful smile vanishes just like that. It is so sad to lose this amazing person but as we say in Islam, it is God's will.
