The Schrocks are a wonderful, kind, loving family who are going through something heart wrenching. Christa is a nurse and our work family decided we wanted to make a fundraiser to help bare some of the burden the next days, weeks, months, and years may bring. I have attached the post that Christa had shared explaining the situation, so you can read it in her own words. Please pray for sweet and sassy little Addiebug. Every bit helps!
Addison is our 8 year old daughter who has a very long journey ahead of her. We started back about a month and a half ago with what we thought were a once in a while or 1 time a night “night terrors” that came on as quickly as it seemed like it left. She was shaky, petrified, heart racing and then back to herself about 15-30 seconds. We went to the county fair on July 30th and we road a ride (the spider looking ride) that really seemed to pick up momentum with her being tiny and my weight (felt like we were going to fly out of it). That night she had 3 “night terrors” or episodes. Four days later I witnessed them for the first time during the day into the evening. At first, i thought maybe her sugar was dropping and maybe needed to eat something so I got her food. Then seeing her eyes dilate with them I knew something wasn’t right. Keep in mind, still short episodes. That night she had them all night long…some 45 minutes apart, some sooner. I immediately took her to the ER the next morning (in PA) and was taken not seriously. I asked for an MRI because I was concerned of seizures. I was told they were not seizures because she did not lose consciousness and didn’t present with normal seizure activity. I begged for blood work and a urinalysis. They aloud very basic bloodwork and denied the U/A with multiple attempts of me asking. They closed the door while she was having “episodes” as if we were being too loud or troublesome. We got discharged with a psych referral and because I was pushing for an MRI, if I wanted to see neuro I could make an appointment. We were scheduled to leave for vacation 2 days later and debated on even going. Feeling this uneasy about what was going on, we asked her if she wanted to go to the beach to be sure which she insured us that she did. With what we were told, we thought it would’ve been helpful for her if she was needing it (mentally, emotionally, etc.) on our way down she decreased her appetite and still having intermittent episodes. By Saturday and Sunday her eating and drinking was decreasing to the point that it shutdown. I felt like I was watching her wither away in front of me (dying). Dropping a significant amount of weight, Monday we took her to the ER in Myrtle Beach where she was admitted to the PICU. Our concerns finally were listened to and did not fall on deaf ears. She was ordered an EEG which showed focal seizures and MRI which did indeed show Complex Partial Seizures with cortical dysplasia in the right frontal lobe. She was up to about 50-60+ per day and started to increase to every 10-15 minutes. They gave us the most phenomenal care we could have ever asked for, just stellar from the Pediatric ICU Doctors, Nurses, Child Life Specialists and MRI girls. Addison had to be transferred closer to home to a neurology team that could continue with her care because her seizures were not responding to medication and her HR increased to 180’s-190’s up to 230 with a seizure before coming down. They orchestrated a transfer to a hospital that was more than ready to help us and understood completely the urgency in taking on her case. We were led straight to WVU medicine/Ruby memorial who has taken care of her like she was their own child. She has a wonderful neurologist that repeated her MRI that they use for epilepsy patients and delivered the news today that her seizures are operable and should take them away completely. We should know more when her surgery is on Monday, but for the situation this was very hopeful news. Please keep our baby in your prayers, the Lord God has brought all the right people together and before us to help her. We could not be more thankful. Her journey is still a scary one, but we have a better prognosis and we will take it. With much love and God’s grace, I thank you for your prayers in advance ❤️.
