Addison Avina’s Memorial Fund

Addison’s Journey here on earth ended suddenly on October 24, 2018. She was only 2 & 1/2 years old. With all the challenges and health issues she was born with we were unable to set up life insurance for her.  We are now faced with not only the impossible task of saying goodbye to our precious sweet daughter but are also now facing paying for unexpected final expenses.

So many of our friends, family and individuals that love Addison, were touched by her life in some way and have followed her Journey have asked how they can help. This is one way, not only to help our family but to honor Addison in the memorial stone we will choose for her in the coming months.

Here is her story

Addison Abigail Avina
MARCH 14, 2016 – OCTOBER 24, 2018

Addison Abigail Avina passed away suddenly on Wednesday October 24, 2018 after just two and a half short years on this earth.
She was born at Banner Diamond Children’s Medical Center in Tucson, Arizona on Monday March 14, 2016. Addison was born with a rare condition called Amyoplasia Arthrogryposis (AMC). The condition affected almost every joint in Addison’s body, along with also effecting her respiratory system. She was placed on a ventilator immediately after birth and doctors gave very little hope for the future. But they were wrong. Addison had different plans. Early on we all saw she was going to be a fighter. She endured many tests and procedures while in the hospital. On July 12, 2016, Addison had surgery to fix a malrotation in her intestines, remove her appendix, place a g-tube for feeding and a tracheotomy for breathing.

She continued the fight and on October 25, 2016 after spending the 1st 226 days of her life in the NICU and PICU we finally got to bring our sweet baby Addison home. Her life was not easy and we made a few trips back to the hospital but she continued to show us her strength and determination. She did things that some said she would never be able to do. She started to move her legs, her arms, sit up, and even start to breathe without her ventilator. Addison always had her own way of doing things, on her time with her own rules. It was her story to write. It never seemed she noticed her limitations and we treated her no differently. Through all her challenges she always managed to smile, ok sometimes she did give you “the look”, but that is because her personality was so strong. Addison was smart, silly, playful but most of all loving. She loved her family and we all loved her, unconditionally.

Addison’s life was filled with a team of doctors, nurses, therapists, friends and family members that loved, cared for and supported her along her journey.

In just two and half short years, she taught our family more than we could have ever learned in a lifetime. She taught us the importance of family, of life, of love and reminded us to always trust in God. She taught us not to give up, to stay strong and to always cherish even the little moments.

Addison is survived by her Father, Robert Avina (“Dada”) her Mother, Marla Avina (“Mama”) Sisters, Kaytlin (“Wawa”) and Elianna (“Lala”), Brothers, Tristan (“Brother”) and Rhyland (“Brother”), Grandparents, Michael Avina, Georgiana Palermo, Chuck Miller (“Grampa”) and Verna Miller (“Grama”) and Great-grandma, Betty Kelley.

Addison touched the hearts and lives of everyone who knew her.

Although she was taken suddenly and far too soon we will never forget our sweet baby girl. We know Lord willing we will see you again someday. Until then, things are all “better” now. Love you forever and always Addison.

A Memorial Service in her honor will be held at 2PM, Saturday November 3, 2018, at Country Club Church of Christ located at 145 N. Country Club Road, Tucson, AZ 85716
