Addison Zamudio Memorial Fund

Addison Zamudio was born with a wild, adventurous, inquisitive spirit that just could not be contained by rules, definitions, society’s norms, and, sometimes, common sense.

At age 7, our little guy convinced his younger sister, Mya, to go exploring with him. They packed their backpacks, kissed their little sister, Ellie, goodbye and left for Nome.

Our two children walked out of the house with innocent motives and a shared purpose: they went to explore the unknown.

Here’s a link to a story about their adventure (and our terror.): https://www.stltoday.com/lifestyles/parenting/parents-grateful-that-kids-adventure-ends-safely/article_22d3f641-c909-54fc-b9b2-c6e7719fefc6.html

They were returned to us, unscathed and regretful about what they put us through. If we are honest though, Addison never lost his sense of adventure. He always had a different spin, a unique take, and a different rhythm.

Over the years, he grew into an incredible young man. Addison was caring and compassionate, wickedly funny and sarcastic, a killer musician on more instruments than anyone could keep track of, a creative artist, a gifted producer...so many things! It sometimes seemed that he was more than could be contained in one person.

He was a friend to everyone, especially those kids who identified as “different.” The Creators, the Thinkers, the Goofballs, the Loners, those who struggled with their identity, those who were confident in their identity - sometimes an identity different than the one others would choose for them; these were his people. All of them.

That’s why so many hearts were broken when we had to share Addison’s truth with his friends.

Yesterday (Saturday, 11/23/19) we had to tell the world that our beautiful, bigger than life, giant hearted, talented, funny man son of ours took his life sometime last Thursday night or early Friday morning..

Mya and Ellie’s protector, instigator, best friend, heartiest foe, and beloved big brother was gone.

Our son is gone.

We don’t know what led to this. We may never know. It doesn’t matter. It changes nothing.

What we do know is that we aren’t sure how to breathe without him.

It all seems surreal.  Our boy was impulsive and strong and silly and loving and resilient. He came back before. It feels like we should see him walking in the door any minute.

He won’t be back. This is our reality. How do we carry on?

We can’t breathe, but he needs to be laid to rest. We need to clean up the mess that remains. His sisters will need counseling. We need counseling.

We don’t have money set aside for something like this. We are a high school teacher and a self employed artist, music writer & producer.. We were getting by...but this couldn’t have been anticipated.

We are asking friends, neighbors, and strangers who know this journey to consider helping us provide what our girls, and our boy, need. Your consideration and generosity are so very appreciated.

Finally, to our son, the one who was too much for one body, who was bigger than life, who leaves a giant hole in our hearts:

Addison, you are loved and understood. Fully and completely, with no conditions.

Go. Explore the Universe. You can show us around when it’s our turn.  (Written by Susie Pundmann on behalf of Margaret and Alvin.)
