Addison Honors Former City Manager Ron Whitehead
Donation protected
Please help thank and recognize Ron Whitehead for all he’s done for Addison. Donations made to the "Ron Whitehead Recognition Fund" will be used to create and install a bronze medallion plaque in his honor at Addison Circle.
In 1982, when Ron Whitehead was named City Manager of Addison, there were only about 144 single-family homes in Town. When he retired in 2014 after nearly 32 years service, the Town's population stood at more than more than 15,000. During the course of three decades, Ron saw the Town develop from a handful of businesses to 1600 registered business today, as well as the construction of the Dallas North Tollway. He and Development Services Director Carmen Moran were the visionaries behind such significant projects as Addison Circle and Vitruvian Park.
In July 2018, the Addison City Council discussed options for recognizing and honoring Ron and Carmen for their many years of service to the Town of Addison.
To recognize Ron, Council gave staff direction to move forward with dedicating the plaza at Addison Circle Park by installing a bronze medallion. Ron specifically asked that city funds not be used for this project so friends of his have embarked on a fundraising effort. (Donations to Carmen's recognition can be made here: gofundme.com/f/addison-honors-carmen-moran.)
The estimated cost for the Ron's recognition project is $1,600.
Any money raised above the amount needed to create and install the plaque at Addison Circle Park will be donated to the Ron Whitehead Endowed Scholarship Fund at University of North Texas. The fund is managed by the Development Department of the University and funds are dispersed to deserving students in the Masters of Public Administration Program at the recommendation of the Head of the Public Administration Program. The fund was established by the Department in 2014 to honor Ron's service to cities over his 43-year career in municipal management. Ron received his Master's from North Texas in 1980 and has supported the program for the last 40 years.
A dedication for the Addison Circle plaza will be held at a later date when larger gatherings are acceptable.
