Please help thank and recognize Carmen Moran for all she’s done for Addison. Donations made to the "Carmen Moran Recognition Fund" will be used to create and install a granite medallion plaque in her honor at Vitruvian Park.
Carmen Moran began her career with the Town of Addison as a planning technician in 1984. During her 30-year tenure, she filled multiple positions, often simultaneously. She advanced to be a planner, an administrative assistant to the city manager, city secretary, and in 1992 director of development services. Carmen helped create big things in Addison. She and former City Manager Ron Whitehead were the visionaries behind the Addison Circle development and Vitruvian Park. Addison Circle was one of the first new-urbanism projects in a suburban location in the country and received significant recognition throughout the country.
Carmen died in 2014 at the age of 58 of breast cancer.
In July 2018, the Addison City Council discussed options for recognizing and honoring Carmen and Ron for their many years of service to the Town of Addison.
To recognize Carmen, Council gave staff direction to move forward with renaming the Vitruvian Park amphitheater in her honor and adding engraving to the existing granite medallion, as well as installing a plaque on the adjacent concrete. To recognize Ron, the plaza at Addison Circle Park will be dedicated in his honor. Ron specifically asked that city funds not be used for this project so friends of Carmen's have embarked on a fundraising effort.
The estimated cost for the project is $1,100.
Any funds raised in excess of what is needed for Carmen's recognition project will be donated in Carmen's name to Susan G. Komen.
A dedication for the Vitruvian Park amphitheater will be held at a later date when larger gatherings are acceptable.
