Addison Beard is a 7th grade honor student at Mineral Ridge High School (Ohio) who was first diagnosed with a clear cell sarcoma in 2018. Over the past two years, Addie has endured surgery and radiation treatments to help her combat this very rare form of cancer. Following these efforts, she continued to undergo a clinical trial only available at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. While this clinical trial required a great deal of travel for the family, it offered Addie new treatment options developed with the goal of finding a cure for her and for others who suffer from childhood cancers.
Her father, Ben, and mother Aleshia are both Mineral Ridge graduates and lifelong Weathersfield residents and her sister, Brooklynn, is a junior currently attending Mineral Ridge High School.
Unfortunately, times have only become more challenging for the family. Ben’s employer recently lost the owner and leader of the company to an untimely heart attack leaving Ben with the primary responsibility to maintain business as usual until the owner’s family can cope with the loss and develop a business plan moving forward. Additionally, Aleshia’s employer, who was accommodating for several months, decided to separate her employment, leaving the family with no medical benefits effective January 1, 2021. As you can imagine, the untimely decision and disregard to do the right thing for Aleshia’s family is very disappointing.
This family has endured more challenges, setbacks, and unimaginable anguish as they have focused all of their attention and finding a cure for Addie’s cancer.
As if all of these challenges are not enough, since October, Addie has endured multiple complications with her condition requiring many procedures, additional surgeries, long stays in the Cincinnati Children’s hospital, and many days away from her loved ones. As a result of the complications, Addie is no longer able to participate in the clinical trial, leaving her with few options to combat this terrible and unfair cancer. Saturday, Addie was transported from Cincinnati to Rainbow Babies Children’s Hospital in Cleveland where she will receive care to make her discomfort tolerable.
Our hope is for her to spend the holidays at home and wish for a true Christmas miracle.
Her fight is relentless and her spirit is truly inspiring.
We ask for your heartfelt contributions to aid the family in their pursuit to find hope in all of their challenges. They must focus on their two daughters and not worry about their finances during this critical time.
Your thoughtful and kind words of support and love over the past two years have been appreciated and allow the family to maintain focus during this overwhelming challenge.
Sincere appreciation and love on behalf of Addison’s family and friends.
