Recently Addison (Addie), our dachscund/collie mix, developed a bulge in her stomach that we had chalked up to weight gain. We changed her diet and got her more excercise, yet the bulge continued to grow. After multiple tests were run and doctors were visited to get to the bottom of her new found source of uncomfort, we discovered that her spleen has become enlarged for some reason (not cancer thankfully) and that it needs to be removed immediately to prevent it from rupturing and causing her to bleed out internally. Thankfully, as well, we were informed that she does not need her spleen to live the rest of her life to the fullest, but as it currently stands if it's not taken out soon, she either dies from the previously mentioned source, or it continues to push on her lungs and heart until she can't breathe and dies from asphyxiation. Anyone who has ever met Addie knows that she deserves far better than this and we are hoping to keep her around for years to come to bring more happiness to those who meet her. The doctor has informed us that the surgery needs to happen as soon as possible while she still has the strength to make it through the procedure, so if you can find it in your heart to help save a life, any little bit helps. All proceeds will go towards her surgery and medical care (aftercare medicines and further testing) and if there's any left over, we'll probably end up getting her all the toys and treats she could ever ask for...
