This is my grand daughter Addison. She is the sister to Camden, who passed away August 3, 2018 from Glioblastoma, less than two weeks after his diagnosis at age 7. That was the most painful and traumatic experience our family had ever endured. Now, Fast forward 1 1/2 years later. His sister is now fighting for her life.
Addison, age 7, was taken to the ER in Rice Lake, WI on the eve of January 1, 2020. She was weak, pale and had no appetite. This was her second trip in 10 days time. This ER doctor did blood work (the last one didn’t). Addison’s hemoglobin was at 6, critical. She received a blood transfusion, additional testing and scans. Once again, we find ourselves in every family’s worst nightmare!
Addison was transported 2 hours away from her home to a Children’s Hospital in Marshfield, WI. The unthinkable....the improbable situation is repeating itself. Addison has been diagnosed with a highly aggressive (but treatable) cancer. She has Burkitts, a rare form of Non Hodgkins Lymphoma. She has a mass in her belly, it’s in her bone marrow and spinal cord. BUT, as aggressive as the cancer is...the oncologist is being just as aggressive!! While treatable, this will not be a walk in the park.
Addison’s mother, still recovering from the loss of Camden, had not returned to work yet as she has a 6 month old at home. Karen’s husband is the only source of income and has had to stay in their hometown to continue working and care for their infant while Karen and Addison are at the hospital. Myself and her siblings live in other states, mostly across the country. There will be many immediate financial needs (travel expenses, living expenses, incidentals etc) in the near future so I am hoping to get ahead of the issues and take that burden off their plate.
