Addie Post is one brave girl who has endured so very much in her short lifetime. Addie has had more than 40 surgeries and has over 100 doctor appointments each year!
I had Addie as a third grader and loved being able to teach her. Life wasn't easy then, but Addie was always so selfless and kind as she faced the next challenge thrown her way. Addie's sweet spirit is always shining through as she plays with her sisters and snuggles with her dogs. Her giggles and positivity light up the room. I have always been amazed at how strong Addie is, and I know she is going to continue to shine even in the next portion of her medical journey.
Addie's big, loving family is her biggest support, which makes this part of her journey a little bit more challenging. The next leg is a scary one, as it requires her to relocated for 2 months with her mother to Philadelphia. Her sisters and dad will remain behind, but they are so sad to not be with her. This is a huge financial and emotional burden for the family. This money will help Addie and her family with lodging, travel, and medical expenses that are piling up quickly.
An Update From Addie's Mom, Rachel:
"Our time in Philadelphia taught us that Addie's lymphatic disease is far worse than we thought. She is completely missing a thoracic duct and her lymphatic fluid is flowing in all different directions surrounding her vital organs. It is flowing into her abdomen causing pain and lack of growth. It is surrounding her spleen probably hindering her ability to fight infection and illness. It is around her liver causing pain. It is surrounding her lungs and heart making her lungs "wet" and function at a lower than normal rate.
The doctors told us it's not "if" but "when" we are dealing with respiratory failure and other organ problems. She most likely will develop fluid build-up, increasing her need for tubes and drains.
We have one option--our last option. It's an experimental treatment. We would be required to move to Philly for 8 weeks to start the treatment and then she will be monitored closely and have many more bi-weekly follow-up trips.
Friends, we need your prayers. And help. This is going to be so hard. We are heartbroken. We are scared. Yet we still have hope. This treatment is groundbreaking. It is the only place in the world that does it. We believe Addie ended up there for a reason. We will make it happen if we have to sell our house to do it. "
Please donate to help the Post family! Any little amount is helpful and so appreciated. We can't make Addie better, but we can help to ease this burden a little bit! Thank you!
