Addi is my almost 3 year old granddaughter who was diagnosed with Kawasaki Disease on Thursday Dec 2. On top of that she had Human Metapneumovirus, a double ear infection and was extremely dehydrated. "KD" is a rare disease that presents with high fevers for 5 days (hers floated around 103-104 but got as high as 105.2), swollen hands/feet, dry cracked lips, bloodshot eyes, swollen lymph nodes, irritability, vomiting/diarrhea and a nasty rash covering the body. It's an inflammatory disease that targets the blood vessels (hence the swelling and bloodshot eyes) and can cause damage to the heart. As of right now her heart is fine. If it is treated within 10 days of symptoms, the chances of heart complications are lower. Her treatment started at the end of what was believed to be day 5. She will have her heart monitored over the next 6-8 weeks by sedated Echo's and EKG's and will be on a daily dose of aspirin until further notice. There is also a chance of a flair up (most commonly happens in the 6-8 week window but could present over the next couple years) in which case she would have to be admitted and treated again. She is being seen by Infectious Disease, Cardiology and A Kawasaki Team at Nationwide Children's who have been trying to get this girl better. It is very important to try and keep Addi as healthy as possible, specifically in the next 6-8 week "danger zone" while her heart is continued to be monitored and the chance of a flair up is higher. Because of this, her mother Katie, will be staying home from her job at the daycare where Addi also attends. This will prevent either one of them being exposed to all of the sickness that is inevitable with daycare, especially with the age group Addi is in.
This fund raiser will go towards current and future medical bills, plus everyday needs to ease the stress through this holiday season while they are home.
We are so grateful for all of the love and prayers already poured over Addi and her family. God truly has his hands on this special girl.
Thank you,
