Hello! My name is Lucas Hasenfus. I am currently a Life Scout with Boy Scout troop 6504 out of Amelia Court House, VA. For my Eagle Scout Project, I'm privileged to be working with my local High School (Amelia County H.S) to build a swing-set/play area for our schools exceptional students.

In conjunction with my Eagle Scout project I'm starting this fundraiser. This was recently approved by the Arrohattoc District round table out of Richmond, VA and fundraising can now begin!! I'm excited to get this project moving and have a staggering $4000 target to hit in just a couple month’s time.

The students currently have no dedicated play area to call their own as often is the case at the High school level. It's important to provide this outlet for adolescents. Below are just some of the benefits of exercise, not only for special needs but everyone.

Improvements in muscle strength, coordination, and flexibility. Improved exercise endurance, cardiovascular efficiency, and possibly increased life expectancy. Better balance, motor skills and body awareness. Improvements in behavior, academics, self-confidence and building friendships. Positive changes in health, quality of life and boost to ones self-esteem. Provides a sense of accomplishment or personal satisfaction. Increased attention span and on-task behavior. Provides an outlet for physical energy, coping with stress, anxiety and depression.

Below is the cost list for this project:
Contractor- $760.00
Swing Frame- $1,250.00
Rubber Mulch- $1,500.00
Adaptive swing seat- $350.00
Nest Swing- $190.00
Concrete- $280.00
TOTAL= $4,300.00~

I'm doing several local fundraisers within the school but don't expect to come near the costs to cover this project. That said, any support you can provide is greatly appreciated!

If a Tax receipt is needed for your donation, please do not give through Go Fund Me, rather send a check payable to:

"Amelia County High School"
8500 Otterburn Rd
Amelia Court House, VA 23002

Please note on the check memo that this is for Lucas Hasenfus' Eagle project/Special needs swing-set. The school will in turn ensure the funds are allocated for this cause!

Again, thank you for considering and helping us reach this goal! If you made it to the end and would like to donate, click the "Learn More" button on the upper right hand side of this page!

This update is a long time coming!

I’m happy to report that we’ve raised close to $2100.00 through Go Fund Me and fundraising efforts in Amelia County Public Schools as well as through other private donors in the community.

A big thanks to all who have helped us reach this point so far. Thank you as well to Special Needs Toys for offering a discount on the Nest and Full Size Adult Swing, which we’ve now ordered.

Tomorrow I’ll be visiting a local building supply company to inquire about a discount on the cement needed for construction of the play set.

More updates to come!
