Adaptive Maui

Adaptive Maui started out in 2018 as a few people getting together to help get people with disabilities on the water. We are a diverse group of able and adaptive bodies with various passions from surfing to swimming and even Kiting. Over the past year, the crew has grown and our mission to make Maui more accessible has grown along with it. 

We work pursuing that mission in several ways including through athlete sponsorship, advanced physical training, community events. adaptive gear development and more. 

We focuses on helping make our community more inclusive for all through 3 major goals:

Connecting 
Advocating
Training

While sports are our passion and first priority, we also recognize that some of the greatest barriers for adaptive bodied people are in daily life. So we strive to create balance between developing our sports and creating opportunities for our community to participate in making Maui more inclusive. Here are some projects we have been working on this year:

- Athlete competition scholarships
- Purchasing Beach trax to make our beach events more accessible
- Connecting Able Bodied and Adaptive Athletes to participate in       sports together
- Developing adaptive equipment for ocean sports 
- Offering adaptive training programs to develop skills
- Helping to organize adaptive heats in our local Maui HSA surf competitions.

The funds we raise during this campaign will go towards gear and competitions  and events.
