ADAPT - Help break the silence on domestic abuse
The International Women's Day theme for 2022 is #BreakTheBias. We can break the bias by forging positive visibility of women, celebrating women's achievements, challenging gender discrimination, and supporting other women when they most need it.
ADAPT Domestive Violence services does just that, promoting the right of everyone to live and grow to their full potential in a violence free environment.
ADAPT runs the largest refuge in the country, providing emergency accommodation for women & children who have to leave their homes because of domestic abuse. It also provides a multitude of services you may not be aware of, such as:
- 24-hour helpline support
- 1-2-1 support for issues arising as a result of domestic abuse
- A play therapy service for children who are or have lived with domestic abuse
- Outreach service - giving women the opportunity to speak confidentially with a support worker
- Support groups
- Educational opportunities for women survivors of domestic abuse
- Work with community, statutory & voluntary bodies to raise awareness of domestic abuse and how to recognise it
This year, ADAPT are further expanding their outreach services across Limerick city and county and I would love for us to help them carry out that work. To give you an idea of what our collection could mean to ADAPT:
- €25 alone provides a play therapy session for a child who has witnessed domestic abuse
- If we reach a €125 donation goal, this would provide food & other essential refuge supplies for a family for 1 week
- €200 would provide activities for children in the refuge for 1 week
