Adana is raising funds for SA and Birmingham Children's H

Hi my name is Adana and I've been picked to go to South Africa this year with my school.

The funds will be split between two causes that are incredibly important to me. One being Spec Buddy's and Birmingham Children's Hospital.

I have worn glasses since I was in Reception and they've made a big difference to my life. I want to help others by raising funds to provide them with eye tests and glasses.

I have been given the amazing opportunity to go home to South Africa with students and staff from across our 4 Trust schools who will not only get to experience the incredible culture of South Africa but will also have the opportunity to spend time at a South African High School!

One aspect of this incredible experience is to visit our sister school Shiyane High School and continue the work that was started there last year with Spec Buddies.

In 2024, we were astonished to see firsthand the struggles children faced due to poor vision. Imagine sitting in a classroom, eager to learn, but the words on the board are nothing more than a blur. Struggling to see your teacher’s instructions, the pages in your textbook, even the faces of your friends.

For many students, this is their reality, not because they lack the motivation to learn, but because they lack something as simple as a pair of glasses.

Our mission is to raise enough funds to provide every student at Shyanne High School with a sight test and glasses for those who need them. We aim to give the gift of sight, which can transform a child’s educational experience and future.
