Adam’s Heart Transplant
Donation protected
EDIT: 2025-04-01
On Sunday March 30th at 1:30 pm, Adam entered the operating room for his heart transplant surgery. Surrounded by his family, his wife, mum, dad and two brothers (who flew in from Vancouver and Calgary a few days prior). We all waited patiently in the family room until finally at 9:30 pm we were all given the news that he had made it through surgery and would be moved to the ICU in Halifax. At 11:30 pm we were finally allowed to visit Adam, who was still very much asleep and sedated from anesthesia.
Adam is currently recovering in the ICU, and although he’s had a few minor complications, his recovery is trending well. He is still sedated but has a team of nurses, doctors and professionals who are dedicated to his recovery 24/7.
Although surgery is behind him, he has a long road to recovery with continued expenses as he undertakes this life changing procedure. Our GoFundMe page will remain open through the course of his immediate recovery. We, as Adams family
are eternally grateful to the support of our backers, and everyone who spread the word or donated to his cause. Truly from the bottom of our hearts, thank you all ❤️
—————————————————————
My older brother Adam Roberts has a very rare congenital heart disease called ARVC (Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy). The Newfoundland form of this disease is extremely life threatening, especially to young men in the prime of their lives. This means that the muscle tissues in his heart degenerate into fat and fibrous cells leading to ventricular tachycardia and cardiac arrests and eventually heart failure and death.
Adam has had three cardiac arrests and luckily has been saved by his implanted cardiac defibrillator! As you can imagine this has been terrifying to him and his young family.
Adam has now been placed on the heart transplant list in Halifax. He has to be packed and ready to go at any time. Unfortunately, he needs at least monthly visits to Halifax and after transplant he must relocate to Halifax for several months. In addition, he must temporarily go on Employment Insurance disability which will be one third his regular salary. This is added stress that this young family do not need at this critical time.
Any money donated will help Adam during his wait on the transplant list, frequent medical appointment trips to Halifax, relocating to Halifax after transplantation, and supporting both a Halifax and Fredericton household.
Any and all help will be greatly appreciated, and all proceeds will go directly to Adam and his family
