Help my Family have a home again.
Hello, my name is Troy Adamczyk. I have been married to the same wonderful woman now for 14 years, Selene, we met in high school, and we've had three wonderful children, Faile (14), Kaire (10), and Talene (7), pictured above.
Everything was going great for us, we finally moved from a cramped two bedroom apartment in West Branch, MI to a spacious six room, two story house just down the road. We were finally ahead of the game, my wife was working full time, I had started the hobby shop, everything was great. We had the house on a Rent-to-Own contract with an out-of-state company and our payment was only $670/per month for a total of $45,000 to own, at the time was very affordable. We continued to make payments for about two years until we couldn't contact the company. I had the money in the account like always, called to have them run my card, but all I had received was a voice mail service. This continued for a month and a half until I just received the "The number you reached has been disconnected" message. So being a computer tech and avid internet user, I took to Google to find out what happened. The company was gone, they went out of business, no warning, nothing just gone. I went into panic mode and franticly searched for ways we could keep the house, having at this point put around $20,000 into it via payments and repairs, so I turned to the County Clerks office for advice. I was then referred to the County Treasurer to whom I told what was happening to my family. I was reassured that I was well within my right to stay at the home, and if it ever went for tax auction, I would be notified immediately and would have first dibs. This relaxed me for a bit and we continued to live there for another two years. About five months after talking to the County Treasurer, we had a very upset real estate agent knocking at our door, frantic about someone living in a house she was told was empty. After I explained what had happened she stormed off in a huff and we finally received a call from the actual owner of the house, who up til this point wanted to remain anonymous. We worked out a deal where he would repair the heat, the house from the time we moved in had no heater, and I would pick up where we left off in the payments. I was happy to have finally get back on track and continue as normal, at least so I thought. That was the last time I heard or received any contact from the owner of the house. I called the number that he left again and again and no reply. I was waiting on new paperwork to get the ball rolling again and it never came.
Fast forward two years to August 2013, we were still at the house as the County Treasurer had instructed us. Life was great, the business was going well, still a little slow but well, my wife had taken a position as store manager in the same town as my hobby shop, right across the street in fact, in Houghton Lake. One morning, as we were getting ready to leave for work, we received a strange call asking if I was Troy Adamczyk and if I lived at, naming off the address of the house, and I said yes, that's me. The woman on the phone identified herself as the new owner of the house, that she purchased it from a tax auction something that we were told that we would be notified first by the county, and we need to leave. Taken back, I told her no, first off, and that I didn't believe her, to which she replied, “I don't have to explain myself to you, you're not on the taxes, get out of my house or I'll have you removed!”. This was the unthinkable, something we were not prepared for, but we didn't take it laying down. I did research to figure out what happened, tried to find out how long my house was up for taxes, and who this lady was that was telling us to get out. I found out that my house was put up for auction in another county 60 miles away, that it was bought by someone who is Federally Funded, that's right paid by our government, to buy homes to rent out to low income families under section 8. My family is low income, so we (a low income family) is being forced out of our house so it can be rented to a low income family. A house that at this time we've lived in and maintained for 4 years, it was our home!, and we're about to loose it to someone that owned most of the neighborhood and is paid by our government to do so. We were taken to court for eviction, denied the right to legal counsel, and only given 10 days to move, move 4 years of our life in 10 days but with our work schedule was realisticly 2 days, and all in one day. That was September of 2013, the worst month we as a family have ever faced. We lost almost everything we owned, we were able to save our appliances and items we couldn't replace, but most of our cloths, my girls toys, etc. are gone. We put most of what we could in storage and we've been homeless since.
We have applied to every apartment building in town and responded to several ads for rentals in the paper, to no avail. Most low income places stop when I tell them that I own a business, they don't want anything to do with me even though I haven't made a profit yet. Do to this, we've been forced to live at the hobby shop. It has taken a horrible toll on our family and doesn't seem to be getting any better. Everyday seems to pull us farther away from getting our life back on track. It has even taken it's toll on me and my wife's health. The added stress from this ordeal has put me at risk for a stroke, my blood pressure hit 264/118, and my wife has been plagued by migraines that has put her in the hospital twice.
The hobby shop isn't zoned for residence, so we are living on borrowed time. Making this public is a big risk, but a necessary one, I don't know where else to turn. I'm asking for a total of $12,000 to get a house and cover moving expenses and to pick up where we left off. My family has lost so much and we are at risk of loosing even more. This is our last resort, we have no where else to turn and no one else to turn to. I put it into the hands of the internet to help save my family.
Thank you, every little bit helps.
