Adam v. Cancer (spoiler: Adam wins)

Dear Friends and Family,
On July 9th of this year our son, Adam, was admitted into the hospital. For over a month he was battling flu like symptoms. Nothing seemed serious until he began having episodes (seizures) of confusion and sensory distortion. Once hospitalized it was discovered that he had encephalitis (acute inner brain inflammation), which was causing the seizures. The neurologist new that something else was wrong and brought in a pulmonologist and hematologist. After a battery of tests and a week in the hospital, which resembled an episode from the TV show House M.D., the underlying cause of the brain inflammation was finally determined. Adam was diagnosed with Stage III Nodular Sclerosis Hodgkin Lymphoma (cancer).
Needless to say, this came as a painful shock, and just days after his 31st birthday. It also came off the back of our youngest son, Ethan, going through a health crisis and Connie losing a sister to cancer. Immediately after the diagnosis, Adam was put under the care of one of the best doctors in South Africa. He was also being supported by the prayers of hundreds of friends and family from around the world.
Because of the advanced nature of the disease, Adam is going through six months of very intense chemo therapy. Since there are a multitude of debilitating side-effects, the possibility of periodic hospitalization and a greatly compromised immune system, he will not be able to go to work for at least 6 months. Connie and I have canceled our stay in the United States and put everything else on hold while we walk with Adam through this very challenging time.
Although Adam has insurance covering the basic treatment, there are many expenses that have already been incurred (barrage of tests) and expenses that will be incurred. We would love for Adam to be able to solely focus on this healing journey and have no financial stress while he battles this disease. We are asking our family and friends to join us in helping to remove any financial burden from Adam’s shoulders.
Your prayers and any words of encouragement are greatly appreciated, and they are absolutely crucial to Adam’s ultimate victory over this disease!
With all the Love,
⁃The Bennot Family
