Adam Sandler Marathon for Doggie Kidney Disease!
Donation protected
Our family had quite a year. In January, I lost my dad to Alzheimer's Disease, A couple of months later we lost our Aunt to a stroke, and then we had another major blow when we found Hans (our Bloodhound and the heart of the family) had a cancerous tumor.
Luckily we were able to remove the tumor, but while doing regular cancer screenings our vet discovered he has degenerative Kidney disease and he will have this for the rest of his life. Our vet has told us that his disease has not progressed very far yet and there are treatments we can do every two weeks that may slow the disease down and let him live out to old age. We had to change his food to a home-cooked diet with specific nutrients to slow the progression of the disease. This diet quadrupled the cost of what we are used to feeding him (and he is a huge 120lb dog so you can imagine he eats quite a bit.) The funds we set aside for Hans have already been spent on getting this diagnosis, specialists, new food and supplements, and regular vet checks. We want to be able to give him the bi-monthly treatments to help him and need some help with the unexpected costs. To come up with the goal, I totaled the expected costs for the bimonthly vet visits and the food for the next 6 months.
Some people run marathons to raise money, but as so many of you know Hans he is absolutely not a runner and I'm not so much of one either. I wanted to do a fundraiser that Hans and I could do together-- a marathon that he would love and for him that's sitting on the couch with me watching movies. I thought of the person who has the most movie credits...and that person is Adam Sandler. We have made a bracket with 77 Adam Sandler movies that we will battle in the next 61 days to help one very special dog. For the 77th movie, our partner Emagine Entertainment Waconia is hosting an event so we can watch it in the theater all together. There will be a meet and greet before the screening where you get to meet Hans, grab a photo and a pawtograph, and let him thank you with a big kiss or a bit of drool. (Ticket Link coming soon!)
Hans is a very special dog. A best friend to all, Mascot for our band The Von Tramps, brings a smile to all who meet him, loves being in music videos , He talks (kind of like Adam Sandler's gobbly goo language), and he is always part of the party. He deserves the best because he always gives us his. My hope, just like any dog mom, is to see Hans live a full and happy life. Follow our Journey on Facebook and please pledge today!
