Adam Hanzel who is near and dear to us all at UT Austin in Slavic Studies -- and has helped so many of us in so many ways -- has suffered a catastrophic medical emergency. He is on the mend now, but he has severe diverticulitis and had to have an emergency abdominal surgery. He has been in the hospital for over a week. He will need another surgery in about 6 months. His medical costs (so far) are $9,000 (these are his costs after insurance covers its portion!) which will be totally impossible for him to pay on a UT teaching assistant salary. I hope we can come together as a community and chip in to help him cover these costs, but also support him through this very difficult time. Please give what you can! Every little bit helps and it will add up. I am writing this on his behalf, as he would never ask himself.
