Adam 'Gus' Gillard passed away on the 1st December 2005 and is missed by those who knew and loved him. It will soon be twenty years since his death and one of the ways his family and friends would like to remember him is by ensuring his headstone is restored.
Gus is buried in the graveyard of Laggan Church in the Highlands with views down to the River Spey and the Monadhliath mountains above. Having family and friends also buried there, we have noticed the steady deterioration of his headstone during successive winters of ice and snow and summers of moss and lichen growth. The gold gilding which was once clear and bright has worn away and the inscription becomes more difficult to read.
Gus's headstone now needs professional cleaning and restoration of the gilding for the future. Through John Ross Funeral Services in Grantown we have secured a quote for this work to be done. It will involve a thorough clean of the memorial stone as well as hand-gilding of the inscription and travel costs for the stonemason.
Gus's family and friends would appreciate any help towards the cost of the work to ensure his memory in Laggan's churchyard for the future and for those who may visit to be able to read the inscription for the years to come. Thank you, it is much appreciated.
