Update on Adam!

Back in July, Adam’s family was faced with decisions no one should ever have to make. It is truly nothing short of a miracle that he not only survived those first critical days after his stroke, but shocked both his medical and hospice teams with daily improvements, improvements no one expected, especially given what his post-stroke test results suggested. Adam has continued to defy the odds against him. His strong will and determination (stubbornness!) carried him through the most fragile moments of this journey. And the love and support surrounding him, from the ICU, to hospice, to each rehab facility, has been a great source of strength for him and his family.

He has made remarkable strides. He spent time at Spaulding Rehab in Boston, where he received daily physical, occupational, and speech therapy. He got stronger each day, regaining mobility in his right leg and making steady progress with his speech.

After his time in Boston, he transitioned to a rehab facility in Littleton. Following continued progress, he returned to MGH for a cranioplasty on October 30th. The surgery went well, and once he recovered, he returned to Littleton to continue his therapies. Now, he is expected to finally head home to Townsend later this week, a moment that seemed impossible back in July.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who has donated, prayed, checked in, and supported the family along the way. As miraculous as Adam’s progress has been, he and his family are navigating a new way of life, one that includes daily care, ongoing medical needs, and the unexpected costs and challenges that come with long-term recovery. Your generosity has eased an enormous weight during an incredibly emotional and difficult time, and it means more to the family than words can ever express.
