Hi, my name is Silvana, and I am fundraising to create a scholarship at Cooper Union University to honor my husband's memory.

Adam was a scholar and a creative writer, a brilliant and curious human being. Adam was a loving husband, a caring friend, sweet, witty, and hilarious. To me, he (whom I love very much) was like a "squirrel of the pen" who "climbed into the trees, more for fun than fear," to observe this greedy life.

Adam deeply cared about his students, so I would love to support and stimulate their interest in classics by offering this prize to the Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS) faculty, where he started teaching a course on Sappho.

This is the description of the prize:

The ATF Prize in Classics and the Classical Reception honors the memory of Adam Foley, a classicist, historian, and 2016 recipient of the Rome Prize in Renaissance and Early Modern Studies. Adam Foley completed his dissertation, “Homer’s Winged Words and Humanist Latinity: The Task of Translating Homer in the Italian Renaissance,” and later, driven by an insatiable curiosity and his love for literature, began several creative writing projects,

including a collection of aphorisms, essays, and a novel.

The prize is awarded annually in the spring to any student in Cooper’s schools who submits the best essay or project that focuses on Greek and Roman classics from antiquity to the present.

The panel of judges will consist of the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, the Director of the Center for Writing and Learning, and at least two HSS faculty members. In the event of a tie, the award will be split. Honorary Mentions may also be presented.
