On October 21, Adam was diagnosed with Large Granular Lymphocytic Leukemia (LGLL) after MONTHS of unanswered questions and unexplained symptoms. He is in the very early stages of this very rare form of leukemia. Less than 5000 people in the US have it. Most people don’t know they have it until it’s too late. He is extremely fortunate to have found it this early. When caught this early it has a very good survival rate. Adam’s team has determined the LGLL leukemia that he has is in the T-cell form. This is fantastic news. This means it is benign and the best news we could have asked for! The other form is known as “killer-cell”.

His team explained that once his numbers are all back to normal, he would be in a version of “remission”. This could happen fairly quickly or take several months. It is likely that his LGLL will surface again, probably triggered with a virus entering his body. When he notices symptoms he’ll have labs done and then start methotrexate again. They can’t prove it but, the probable cause of all this was COVID. LGLL was most likely lying dormant for years, possibly since he was born, and COVID woke it up. Now we’re putting it back to sleep, hopefully for a long, long time.

In the meantime, Adam and Tammy are definitely feeling the financial strain of the situation. Adam stepped down as principal last spring when he started getting sick and weak and moved back into a teaching role, which resulted in a pay cut. In addition, there is insurance deductibles, regular travel expenses, and many other unexpected expenses that come with treatment of any form of cancer.

Adam isn’t really a fan of handouts, but I don’t think anyone should have to go into financial ruin because they are sick. Anything to help reduce the financial strain is appreciated beyond belief!
