This page is for 5yo Adalyn "Addy" As you continue to read below you will see that Addy is just a fun loving toddler who fell victim to a tragic accident that has since changed everything.
This has been going on for almost a year and a half now.
Addy's parents are struggling immensely with missing work, raising 3 children, house payment and the fact that they thought this was all behind them for a while.. Please consider any donation amount.
****Please note the last round of donations helped pay for the previous cost of bills, and instead of starting a new campaign this one will continue, so any amount is welcome and much needed and please share so we can continue to support this family and their baby girl... Thank you
Original Post:
4 year old Adalyn "Addy" was having fun playing in the pool and pretending a floatie was a boat. Addy flipped off the floatie, resulting in an impact to her head....
The innocent, fun play time lead to a visit to the Emergency Room after Addy continued to complain of her ear hurting. Her mama knew there was something more going on. She also notices fluid was coming out of Addys Ear and was originally told she had an Ear infection... After a check by the ER doctors, they determined Addy's condition was extremely severe required an immediate transfer by ambulance to a specialized children's hospital. It was determined Addy had a skull fracture and was leaking cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) out of her ear.
Addy had Spinal surgery which would release the build up of pressure due to the CSF by inserting a lumbar drain for approximately 2 weeks, while allowing the skull fracture to heal. After the surgery, Addy continues to scream and cry in pain. A check-up by the doctors to determine how the lumbar drain and amount of fluid build up remains, has lead to talks about a more invasive cranial surgery in the coming days.
*****UPDATE******
Shortly after Addy was released from CHLA her parents were back for a follow up where they expressed concerns of the amount of Pain Addy was in and subtle changes they noticed in her behavior. They pushed the Dr.s to run more tests and that is where they found a large Mass near Addy's brain stem.. Currently the family is working with her neurosurgery team to prepare for what is next. This was not expected whatsoever and it appears that they found the Mass by chance. Addy's parents are beyond terrified and are doing everything they can to be there for their baby girl and working hard to get answers. Addy is now experiencing nausea, neck, shoulder and arm pain, numbness, Tingling and back andLeg Pain.
Addy has had a total of 11 MRI's under sedation while they monitor her progress and the growth of the mass in her spine.
******UPDATE******* January 10th
Addy has now been hospitalized for a 6th time while she awaiting to see if she will need brain/ cranial surgery.. During that time they found that Addy was starting to build up fluid in her kidneys and had lost the sensation to use the restroom.. This perfect baby girl is having pains in her legs , back, arms, head and behind her right eye.. She has become visually unstable and raising much more concern that she will require the brain decompression surgery where the remove pieces of her skull permanently. They also plan on removing her top vertebrae and using steel plates in her spine to support her spine.
There are so many appointments and specialists followed by countless MRIs and anesthesia. And this is NOT all covered by insurance because they are out of network. Not to mention the cost of missing work and trips too and from LA.
We are all gathering around Addy's parents, Joel and Nicole to support them emotionally during this unforeseen devastating prognoses. Positive thoughts and prayers for healing are the very first on our minds. However, with the upcoming months and unknowns, funds to allow peace of mind for Addy's parents while they comfort their baby girl is beyond appreciation.
Any amount is extremely helpful to support this family as they face any parents worst nightmare. If you feel lead to share this story, please know we are forever grateful.
Hugs,
Great Aunt Debbie
