Tremendous journeys often begin with small steps. A special someone who is a testament to this notion is Adalynn Grace, a strong, fierce and resilient baby who is defying all odds. Born at just 25 weeks, she weighed less than 1lbs and measured 10 inches long.
Her mom, Ragan, developed Preeclampsia during her pregnancy which is a life threatening condition that caused her to have serious hypertension along with kidney, liver and blood complications. The only cure for this issue is delivery of the baby, so Adalynn arrived on June 10th 2020 via Cesarian Section, in the middle of a global health pandemic.
She has been in the neonatal intensive care unit since her birthday and has spent months there being managed by a team of specialized health care professionals. In addition to the traumatic experience of having their daughter born extremely preterm, Adalynn’s parents, Ragan and Garrett have had to navigate the intimidating and intense NICU. They have had to become familiar with so many different machines and equipment, learn all about confusing medical terminology, and adjust to the presence of beeps, lights, wires and tubes constantly surrounding their fragile baby. They have learned to celebrate each tiny milestone and recognize every new day as an achievement.
With their compassion, openness and positive attitudes, Garrett and Ragan are always the first ones to lend support to their family, friends and community. Garrett serves as a local firefighter and Ragan as a police officer. Their integrity and selflessness is evident and there is no doubt that Adalynn will grow up to radiate the same warmth and love.
Becoming new parents is overwhelming enough, let alone bringing home a premature newborn. Garrett and Ragan will deal with stressful uncertainties and further hurdles as they move forward. Because of Adalynn’s situation, she will likely face lifelong challenges. Even after she can go home, it is anticipated that Adalynn will require ongoing specialized medical care well into childhood.
In order to alleviate some of the immense financial burden and stress that comes with a new baby under these circumstances, we are humbly seeking donations, well wishes and words of encouragement for Adalynn and her family. Any contribution is greatly appreciated and will make an enormous difference in the transition from hospital to home.
