Hello, I will start by telling you a little about my beautiful daughter Adaline Linda. She is a strong, empathetic, passionate young girl. She is 22 months old. Her birthday is in April; she loves dogs, elmo, and minnie mouse. She loved to play around, and get into mischief like any other toddler her age would. She loves her dada and mama so very much, and cannot wait for her daddy to come home from deployment. We would have never thought things would change so drastically. On Monday January 16th, 2017 I started realizing small changes in my young daughter. She started getting grouchy towards me, and sleeping all day and all night. I figured growing pains, because how could anything be wrong with my healthy baby? Days past and on Sunday January, 22nd 2017 I decided to take her in to Urgent Care. She was diagnosed with a ear infection and thrush. We were sent home and given a prescription for antibiotics. Three days went by and she seemed to just get worse. She couldnt walk, hold her eyes open, or talk. She also was refusing to eat and wasnt pooping. Her hands and feet became very cold and started to turn purple and blue. Her breathing was heavy, and she was having retractions. I immediately took her in to the E.R. She was taken back right away, and was than diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. Her blood sugar was 425.... My precious 22 month old... it was not what I was expecting to hear. I remember just looking at her and crying.. I wanted to stay strong for her, but hearing that news killed me inside because I knew her life would forever be different from this day forward. We spent the next 5 days in the PICU, all her levels were off. I rememeber just laying in bed praying to god to give my sweet angel strength to push through this. She had gotten acidosous from her levels being so high. Which than through off her ph balance, potassium, and magnesium. She got transferred on the fifth day down to the pediatric ward on the first floor. Her levels were still struggling to stay normal, but from the first day that we got admitted she was looking just so much better. My sweet girl had a hard time with people coming and going and was always scared when the nurses came in. She knew she was going to got poked and pricked. Looking at her and seeing the fear in her eyes tore me apart as her mother. I wanted nothing more than to hold her tight and to take away all her fears and pain. Two days went by and she was feeling more and more like herself. Was laughing, smiling, and seemed to get use to the insulin shots, and being pricked every four hrs. Due to her being in a bed and not walking for over a week she saw a physical therapist because she struggled with walking and sitting up on her own. My sweet Adaline is doing so much better, but still continues to fight this battle. The drs have been trying there very best to keep her levels in a good range, but due to her age and size it is so hard to do. Her dosages are always changing for her to try and find that sweet spot that will help her feel better and not all over the place. We fight daily with her insulin shots, but I know soon she will get use to this. That this will be her norm, her lifestyle.... what she is use to. Due to my daughter not having all the normal signs someone would have with having high and low blood sugar levels it causes a concern for both myself and Adaline's daddy. She doesn't speak much yet as she is still a baby. So we have looked into getting her a diebetic service dog. The service dog will make us, her parents aware of when her levels drop or spike by the smell of her saliva. Unfortunatley, we can not afford the full exspense of a service dog so we are reaching out and asking for some help. We want to be able to make sure that she is safe at all times. Type 1 diabetes is serious, and I truly believe this will be the best thing for our daughter and her future. I understand times are tough but even $1 will help. Our goal is set at 20k. I know it seems like a huge goal, but i have faith we can accomplish this goal! Service dogs range from 20 k and up so as you can imagine we can not do this alone.
I want to thank you for reading her story and considering helping. We truly appreciate all the love and endless prayers and support we have recieved from all across the country. From friends, family, and strangers.
