Last night at 9pm my life was almost taken. While driving home, I came to a washed out road from the storm we had. Before I realized exactly what was happening, in a matter of seconds my car got swept away, taking me completely sideways and floating very quickly towards the woods and a tree. Before I knew it, my car was rapidly filling with water. I had a few seconds to realized I wasn’t saving my car and I needed to save my life. I needed to get out and fast. Thankfully my window was down and I was able to climb out. At that time I started screaming for help. There were voices yelling back at me asking if I was ok and if I was hurt. They then told me to get on the roof of my car since it was the highest point. As I made my way to my roof, terrified and crying thinking this was the end, my car began to completely be submerged leaving me swimming neck high is a very strong current. I managed to make my way to a tree where I then held on for dear life. The whole time these men continued to talk to me, asking me my name and to tell them about myself. While at the time I couldn’t understand why such things mattered, I realize now it saved my life. It kept me calm, and talking until finally Arbutus Fire dept arrived. Two young men swam towards me. They grabbed me and managed to get a life vest on me. The whole time I am apologizing to them for ruining their night and thanking them for saving me. They managed to not only get me safely on ground again, but saved my phone and most of my purse. While I am completely and utterly thankful I am alive and that my boys weren’t with me, I have unfortunately lost my car and many things in it. I now will need to buy a new car and replace everything. I want to give a really special thank you to the men that stayed with me the whole time as well as fire rescue for everything they did to help save me. Due to insurance issues, this is most likely going to have to come completely out of my pocket. I need a car for work, and to transport my kids to sports and just get around period. I know at this time money is tight for everyone but any thing you could spare would be a huge help for my family. Thank you for taking the time to read this and your support
