On February 3, Christina got the phone call no parent would ever want while Micah was at basketball practice. Micah's friends called saying Micah couldn't talk right or stand up. Thanks to the quick action of his coach, 911 was called and he arrived to Mercy Cleveland Clinic within minutes. While there, he was highly suspicious for having a stroke as he was unable to move his left arm and leg and his speech was extremely slurred. EMS had to lift his leg onto the stretcher for him. Micah underwent multiple CT scans and a MRI. The initial scans appeared that Micah did not have a stroke but he was still transported to Cleveland Clinic Main ICU for further evaluation. Through vigorous testing, there was no initial sign of stroke or seizure activity and Micah was diagnosed with hemiplegic-migraine.
By the Grace of God he regained most of the function in his leg and arm but his left hand still demonstrated signs of weakness and poor coordination. He also didn't have his full beautiful smile we all love- his left side drooped some. Micah was ultimately discharged home with multiple follow-up appointments and scans with the neuro team stating he should regain full function with a few days.
Days turned into weeks and he still did not make a full recovery. His personality wasn't the same, he still held his left hand, and that beautiful smile just isn't quite the same.
Micah had a repeat MRI on March 15 that revealed evidence of a stroke in his right frontal lobe. He readmitted to Cleveland Clinic Main Campus while undergoing intense testing and treatment. The medical team is expressing that he is a medical mystery at this time and are unsure what caused a stroke in a healthy athletic 14 year old boy. Micah loves God, his friends and sports and is eager to get back on the field and court.
Christina is a single mother and sole provider for Micah and Maddie. While being with Micah in the hospital and watching over him after the initial episode, she has been forced to miss a lot of work. With limited income and bills continuing to accumulate, I would like to start this go-fund-me to help alleviate some of the financial burden off of this family. Although we are hopeful and praying for the best, the future is uncertain right now. We know Micah is a great student and athlete and Christina would do anything for anyone. If you can give anything at all please help support them. Micah can also use all of the prayers to make a full recovery. All donations are welcomed and appreciated but her bills are mostly set up online therefore using this platform would assist in streamlining her finances.
