Acupuncture Medical Trip Dom. Rep.

After 4 years of graduate school, I will be graduating with my Masters in Chinese Herbal Medicine and Acupuncture in April 2017 and will have my doctorate of Chinese Medicine (DOCM) by December 2017.
I am beyond excited to begin practicing and put all of the hard work and long hours into something tangible and meaningful. I will be taking my first overseas-acupuncture trip to provide acupuncture to the underserved population of Santiago, Dominican Republic from April 23-30.
The Global Clinic is a non profit which provides and maintains a sustainable network of integrative, holistic medical practices to populations with limited or no access to conventional healthcare. Along with other Global Clinic acupunctarists, I will be providing acupuncture/massage to between 40-60 patients a day during my stay.That means I will be providing acupuncture to over 400 locals during my time there.
The total cost of this trip is $1,500 including airfare, lodging, food, translators, and medical equipment. The clinics we are working in lack most all medical equipment so we will need to supply our own- cotton balls, bandaids, alcohol, etc, so any contribution however small can make a very big impact. (If you want to give me a bag of cotton balls to bring, that works too!)
The Dominican Republic is one of the poorest countries in the world if looking at the rates of malnutrition per capita (27%). The Dominican also shares it’s border with Haiti, which ranks as the #1 poorest country in the world, with 77% of its population living in poverty. Most of this population is not only living in poverty, but working extremely demanding jobs and living with chronic pain that may never get treated. Acupuncture is so effective in treating chronic pain, among other things, at a very low-cost and with great results. The Dominican Republic was also hit by a tremendous natural disaster in November of 2016, futher exacerbating the need for medical and emotional support.
Please help me make this opportunity into a tangible reality. I am beyond excited to learn in a fast-paced environment, share the efficacy of this medicine, and most importantly serve a patient population highly deserving of medical care and attention.
