Acupuncture For Trauma Based Healing
Donation protected
Our mission is to provide free, full-body acupuncture services for the survivors that underwent the evacuation and aftermath of the Camp Fire, the deadliest wildfire in California history. Many of the individuals that survived this experience are living with PTSD.
These treatments are specifically designed to alleviate the symptoms associated with PTSD including but not limited to anxiety, helplessness, stress, insomnia, palpitations, nightmares, addiction, etc. Each patient will receive four treatments over the course of a month. Please join us in supporting our community!

On the morning of November 8th, 2018, the deadliest and most destructive wildfire in California history struck the town of Paradise and surrounding towns. Over 40,000 people began their escape, some literally running from the flames, having no idea the effects the fire would leave on their life.
After hearing only a small handful of stories of the horrific experiences endured during the evacuation, it is without question these people deserve the best care possible to help them through not only the loss of their homes, town, places of work, and way of life, but also to help them through the physical and mental trauma of surviving such a huge natural disaster.

The effects of trauma, such as this, on the body, is immense. The sympathetic nervous system can be left on overdrive and be in a constant state of “fight or flight”. According to Ferri’s Clinical Advisor, this amount of stress on the body can cause “distress and a decline in interpersonal, social, and occupational functioning. People with PTSD may feel numb or irritable, may be easily startled or frightened, and sometimes isolate themselves from others. They are at risk for comorbid psychiatric illness, substance abuse, and suicide.” This state of stress can also lead to heart disease, diabetes, and other life-altering chronic diseases.

The use of acupuncture for PTSD has been scientifically proven time and again to reduce anxiety and stress in individuals. These forms of treatment help affected individuals to regain mental and emotional health in order to live more productively and comfortably in daily life. In addition, it is less intrusive than most other forms of treatment for PTSD so it can be used in conjunction with or independently of what the patient may or may not already be doing. Treating the mental and physical health of people who lost their homes, jobs, town, and secure futures while also undergoing extreme and often horrific experiences during the evacuation, is helping these individuals to build a more healthy and solid foundation for themselves, and in turn for society. Starting over in such an all-encompassing way requires a lot from all different aspects of one's life. By treating the symptoms of post-trauma, these people can form a healthier mental and physical foundation.

Community acupuncture serves its purpose when used under the right circumstance, but this project is more than that. This is an opportunity for the patient to have a full hour to themselves in complete privacy. Each room will be a healing inducive environment that includes comfortable massage tables, heat lamps, sound machines/guided meditations, etc. These hour-long healing sessions include a full body consultation, acupuncture directly treating trauma, and depending on the patient and provider, moxa, gua sha, bodywork, aromatherapy, blood pressure checks, tai chi/qi gong techniques, and Chinese herb consultations, all catered to the relief of symptoms after intense stress, loss, and trauma. We also take into account each person’s body imbalances and work to bring the whole person into a better state of well being and balance.

We are looking to set up treatment centers at the Paradise Rec Center or a local church, Chico and in Corning and Yuba City near the FEMA trailer locations. The more funds we raise the more people we will be able to treat.
If you are interested in donating but cannot provide money there are other ways to help! We are looking for space rentals, massage tables, people to help with the sign-in process, people who know of projects similar who may like to collaborate, knowledge in the non-profit world, and of course, people to help spread the word! Please reach out if you are interested in receiving treatments or have any questions at [email redacted]
