Hi, we are Actions Towards Change and we’re hosting a rally on April 18th in Portsmouth Square at 1PM (San Francisco). We are three female Asian American high school students from the Bay Area who feel a change in the world is necessary. For this rally, we have partnered with AAPI Youth Rising, a group comprised of middle school students in the East Bay. The fear we feel for the people in our community is something many others feel as well. No one should have to worry about what could happen when leaving their homes or even being in them. Everyone, regardless of their race, shouldn’t have to be afraid of being attacked because they were born to a different culture. We are organizing this rally in response to these recent AAPI (Asian American and Pacific Islanders) hate crimes. These attacks are something that need to be talked about; we feel that much more change needs to happen after those words are said. We see the women and elderly of our community getting attacked and cannot stand quietly while this happens.
This rally will be centered around inspiring change in actions to make a difference in the world. The funds will be used to cover the cost of the rally and any extra proceedings will be donated to AAPI organizations (the National Organization of Asians and Pacific Islanders Ending Sexual Violence, Enough is Enough, etc.) and victims of these crimes. The money will be for hosting the rally (event permit, etc.), purchasing self defense tools and symbols of unity for the community (whistles, wristbands, etc.), and supporting and donating money to organizations as listed above.
We hope to raise enough money for our event and the community by April 11th to take care of everything that needs to be paid for, though our fundraiser will be continued past the 11th. We are extremely grateful for your support!
