Action for Cheetahs - Scat Dog Birthdays

Tax deductible
Help support the Training and Care of the Action for Cheetahs in Kenya Scat Detection Dogs. These dogs are critical in the range-wide evaluation of cheetah distribution and status of cheetahs in Kenya. The dogs are trained to locate cheetah scat (fecal samples) in areas where cheetah populations are low.

In 2013-2015, our team collected 250 samples of what we thought were cheetah scat - after analysis, only 27 of these samples actually came from cheetahs. In 2018-2019, we used the dogs to locate scat in four regions of Kenya and the dogs found 220 samples - all of them were actually from cheetahs. From those samples we can run further analysis to look at diet and genetics that teach us more about wild cheetahs living in community areas. Using this non-invaisive technique we have extended studies into new areas where little is known about the cheetah population status.

You can help support the training and are of Madi and Persi as a part of their birthday celebrations in 2022. Madi was born in March of 2015 and has located more than 100 scats. Persi was born in April of 2019 and has just begun her career in scat detection. Recently, both dogs have recieved certification as conservation detection dogs. During their tests, they were 97% accurate in finding cheetah scat and ignoring samples from other species.

Our goal is to raise $2000 to fund training supplies, medical expenses and food for the dogs for the coming year.
