About A.C.T.'s Fellowship Program

American Conservatory Theater's Fellowship Program provides advanced, hands-on training in theater production and administration. Fellows gain experience and build relationships as we work alongside professionals in our industry and learn about theater in the San Francisco community. We are early-career theater workers from all across the country with season-long positions in various departments at A.C.T., and we’re coming together with our respective knowledge and training to produce the annual Fellowship Project.

What is The Fellowship Project?

The Fellowship Project empowers the Fellows cohort to craft a production, through a process that fosters our professional growth as both artists and managers, as we maintain a commitment to engaging our community and our audience.

This season, our cohort is excited to be producing The Revolutionists by local Bay Area playwright Lauren Gunderson. The Revolutionists is a comedy about the Reign of Terror that celebrates rebellious women, explores the intersection of arts and activism, and sparks hope for a future in which all voices are heard. This journey from page to stage allows us to collaborate with one another and with other Bay Area nonprofits.

The Revolutionists

1793. Paris. The height of the French Revolution’s Reign of Terror. Mobs are forming, heads are rolling, and Olympe de Gouges is writing a comedy.

When an assassin, a spy, and an infamous former queen knock on Olympe’s door, these badass women must decide their role in the revolution. Will they be remembered on the pages of history? Or will their time be cut short by Madame Guillotine?

Written by San Francisco native Lauren Gunderson (America’s most produced living playwright), The Revolutionists is based on real women, real executions, and real terror. . . but remember it’s a comedy.

Join us in A.C.T.’s Costume Shop Theater April 11–14, and be a part of the revolution!

Play Your Part

A.C.T. provides mentorship for this project and will kindly provide rehearsal and performance space, but it’s up to us to raise the rest of the money to fund our production. And, because we are committed to engaging all members of our community, the shows will be free and open to the public. In order to make it all happen, we need a little help - that’ where you come in!

Your assistance is vital to the success of The Fellowship Project! Each donation offers encouragement for emerging artists and young professionals building portfolios and working toward careers in theater, and will help cover the cost of costumes, set, actors’ and designers’ salaries,  front of house management, royalty costs, and far more. In order to reach our goal, we need to raise $4,000.

If you are unable to donate, we hope that you will consider sharing this fundraiser to help us reach our goal. Follow the ACT Fellows Facebook page to stay up to date on our progress and successes!
